Frequently Asked Questions
About Learning Guitar

We typically recommend age 7 and up for Philadelphia guitar lessons. Before that age, most children struggle to properly hold even smaller guitars. However, we evaluate each child individually and will consider younger students on a case-by-case basis during a free trial lesson.

Yes, you’ll need a guitar to bring to your lessons and practice at home. We can guide you to the right instrument–many beginners start with acoustic guitars because the higher string tension builds hand strength, though electric guitars can be easier for younger children to play.

Not at all! Most of our guitar students are complete beginners. Our guitar instructors in Philadelphia meet you exactly where you are and build from there, whether you’re 7 or 70.

With consistent practice (10 minutes daily to start), most students can play recognizable songs within 4-6 weeks. However, practice is crucial for progress–frequency matters more than duration, so daily practice is better than cramming hours at the end of the week.

We typically recommend at least 6 months of lessons before joining our performance programs, though a year is optimal. We never rush students on stage before they’re mentally and technically prepared–quality performances build confidence rather than diminish it.
