Ready to make real music from day one? At Rawk U School of Music, we prioritize our students over a rigid curriculum, teaching skills that fit where you are as a person and musician. Our Philadelphia piano lessons aren’t about boring exercise books and homework dread–they’re about making actual music while building proper technique and fundamentals. Whether you’re 5 or 60, brand new to piano or returning after years away, our approach combines classical fingerings and scales with the songs that inspire you to keep practicing. From jazz and rock to classical and pop, we’ll help you discover the joy of creating music on the piano.
“At Rawk U, the student comes first, not the method book. Our instructors take time to understand each student–their personality, their goals, their current abilities–and build lessons around that. We’re here to make MUSIC together, and that never gets lost in technical exercises.”
– Kiera Sankey
Voice & Piano Instructor
Meet your Philadelphia piano instructor at our dual-piano setup, discuss your musical goals and interests, and start making music immediately.
We’ll learn who you are as a musician and person, determining the approach and material that will work best for your learning style.
Start with 30-minute weekly lessons (or 1-hour sessions for advanced students), scheduled at times that work for your life.
You’ll need access to a keyboard or piano at home for practice between lessons–we’ll help you find the right option for your space and budget.

My son has been taking electric guitar lessons, and he's doing awesome! His growth has been quick and he loves his lessons. Thanks, Mr. Jessie!Posted on Ty GivensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been learning guitar with Jessie for about 7 months now and it's been a great experience. I've gone from not even knowing how to hold a guitar to being able to play the chords to many of my favorites songs (albeit slowly lol). Jessie seems young but he is a wealth of knowledge. Rawk U is definitely worth a look if you're looking for music instruction.Posted on Emily RossTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jessica, my extremely supportive and creative voice teacher, is the best there is. Whether you are a child or an adult learning how to sing, she makes it easy and fun. I am lucky to have found such a great teacher. Love Rawk U!!!Posted on MichelleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent institution which really brings the best out of every student. My daughter loves taking voice lessons with them.
Our signature 6-week program where guitar students join with other instrumentalists to learn and perform songs as a complete band. Must be an active student for at least 6 months and ready for the intensive collaborative experience.
Many guitarists enjoy adding vocals to their performances, creating the classic singer-songwriter combination that’s perfect for our biannual concerts and solo performances.
Around age 5 is a good starting point, though we’ve had students as young as 3 playing proficiently. It really depends on the aptitude and enthusiasm of the individual student. We evaluate each child during their free trial lesson.
Yes, students need access to some type of keyboard or piano to practice between lessons. You can’t learn piano without being able to practice! We can recommend affordable options for different budgets and living situations.
Absolutely! Our lesson room features two electric upright pianos, so both instructor and student can play together. This allows for real-time demonstration and collaborative learning with your piano teacher in Philadelphia.
Both! We teach proper classical technique, fingerings, and scales, but we do it through actual music you want to play rather than just sticking to exercise books. Whether you’re interested in classical, jazz, rock, or pop, we build solid fundamentals while keeping it fun.
Most students can expect to play at least 3 major scales in both hands after a few months, and you’ll be working on recognizable songs from your very first lessons. Progress depends on your practice consistency and natural aptitude.
It varies by student, but a typical recommendation is 30 minutes, 3 days a week with breaks allowed. The goal is finding your “sweet spot”–enough to progress but not so much it feels like a chore. Too much practice can actually hinder absorption of material.
Yes! Piano students are welcome to participate in our biannual concerts and can also join our Grace the Stage rock band program once they’ve been studying for at least 6 months.
